Grammar Notes:
  • Nouns formed from the past participle of verbs are always masculine.
    Therefore you say, "le fondu, le failli, le passé" and so on.
  • Nouns formed from the verb stem and "-ment" are also masculine:
    le changement, l'enchaînement, le divertissement.
  • Nouns formed from the verb stem and "-ade" are always feminine:
    la glissade, la gargouillade.
  • Adjectives formed from the past participle agree with the noun they modify. For example:
    le danseur tombé, les danseurs tombés, la danseuse tombée, les danseuses tombées.
